Some people thrive on stress and seek it out; others find it too much to take and avoid it. The way in which each individual is able to handle stress is determined partly by personality and partly by ability to cope under different types of pressure.
Everyone needs a challenge, but if the challenge becomes impossible to meet, it can produce intolerable levels of stress.
Stress stimulates and motivates people. Usually, minor daily stresses are accepted as just part of the day, something that makes life interesting and challenging. But if a great many demands are made on you these minor difficulties can lead to too much stress and damage your health, causing insomnia, tension, back and neck pain, and other stress-related illnesses.
Some people seem to thrive on stress, while others cannot tolerate it. By analysing your emotional habits and behaviour you can find out how stress affects you and learn to recognize the warning signs of excessive stress. With this knowledge you will be able to combat the cause of the stress before it becomes a major problem. There are many different ways of easing this tension. Relaxation exercises, meditation, yoga, or physical exercise can all help.
In today’s busy society, people feel depressed or anxious. Surveys have shown that a number of people who suffer symptoms of stress-related illnesses but do not seek medical advice. If you are having emotional difficulties that are interfering with your health or well-being, it is best to discuss them with your doctor. Seeking help is the most important step towards finding a solution to your problems. Counselling, behaviour therapy, a short course of medication, or psychoanalysis can all be beneficial.

Finding your stress balance
Performers and athletes use stress to help them do their best. For them, stress is life-enhancing, exhilarating and necessary for the achievement of their goals.
You can make stress work for you too by using relaxation techniques to combat the stress you cannot control by organizing your life so as not to cause yourself too much stress. If it is kept under control, stress can make life more stimulating and exciting.
