Decisiveness
By peace | June 22, 2007

The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want. ~ Ben Stein
According to the old saying, it’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Look around you. You’ve probably spotted a few people who should have chosen silence over speaking.
Avoid quick judgments, and avoid quick statements even more. Develop a reputation as a cool-headed thinker, someone whose judgment can be trusted. Use your head before you use your mouth. When you finally speak, what you say will make more sense and usually be less destructive.
The Bible compares the tongue to a rudder. If you have ever done any sailing, you know how important it is to keep the rudder under control. Being slow to speak is not the same as being indecisive. Examine the evidence, make up your mind, and state your decision. Sometimes you will have to do so quickly. But usually, there will be time to weigh your options and make a sound determination.
Volume doesn’t always add quality. Use sound judgment. Don’t speak too soon.
