Healthy Eating

By peace | August 2, 2007

Man is what he eats.  Gluttony kills more than the sword.  More people die from overeating than from undernourishment.

If we relax and ‘listen’ to our bodies we will become increasingly aware of which food enhance our health and which food make us less healthy.  There are a number of ways which might help us to notice how we are reacting.

1.  Listening To Our Bodies
If we tune into our bodies for a few minutes after eating, we might notice that we have certain responses which let us know that our body is sensitive to a particular food.  These common possible responses are:

2.  Food Cravings
Any extreme craving or dislike of a food may indicate that we are sensitive to it.  It’s ironic that the food we crave are often the ones which are having the most negative effects on our health.  If we notice we’re craving a specific food, it may initially take a great deal of motivation to eliminate that food from our diet.  It is probably best to decide to stop eating the ‘offending’ food for only a few weeks and to see what difference it makes to our health.  If we feel better then we may be motivated to cut it out completely.  It won’t be long before the craving disappears and is replaced with a feeling of relief that we have eliminated a food which is not beneficial to our health.

Sometimes we do not have any cravings or responses to eating certain food but still wonder if our symptoms are due to our diet.  Eat a diet of the correct proportions with lots of grains and vegetables and cut down on rich food such as dairy products, animal products, fats and sweets.  A well-balanced diet will allow you to lose weight effortlessly.  Eat good quality food.  Enjoy your food.

For a long life, breakfast like a king, lunch moderately and dine like a pauper.
