Chinese New Year

By peace | January 29, 2008

The Pussy Willow is a symbol of peace and harmony. I love the furry flowers when they are opened.

In another week’s time will be Chinese New Year. I have not started spring cleaning! My house is so messy! I ought to stop work soon and start working on my house.

In the past, I decorated my house. Richard and I would drive to some Flower Nursery farms and we shopped for flowers. We would decorate our house with Chinese New Year ornaments and couplets(Duilian 對聯). My mother also gave me Pussy Willow as shown in the photograph above. Those red-packet fish that were hang on the plant were made by my sister. The picture below is Fu Gui Hua 富贵花 (prosperity flower).

Chinese New Year will fall on 7th February 2008 and on the 6th February is Chinese New Year Eve. Families will gather for reunion dinner on Chinese New Year Eve. As usual, I hate Chinese New Year, I never look forward to it.

The Pig Year was not a good year. Going to say good bye to Pig year and welcome the year of the Rat.

Festive season is a good occasion for business people to make money. But it is an occasion for feeble minded people to spend money. Big and small Pasar Malam is a common sight during these season. My sister is a typical HDB Tai Tai (Housewife). She dyed and permed her hair, went shopping for Chinese New Year clothes and went to the bank to exchanged for new notes. She is the luckiest woman who does not know that she is lucky.

And for the rest of the day, I might be saving some electricity, resting my computer. But my hands will still be busy. My mind and body would not stop working. I want to wish everybody Happy New Year.
